Final Paper
I just wanted to share my excitement via blog about our final paper. As a writer I've always been interested in finding a way to share my story for when I think my life is worth sharing. I know that some people in the class sort of had a hard time accepting the format of the paper, but I am looking forward to it. I plan to use three author's styles as well as including my own sort of style: collage. I want my memoir to be almost cut-and-paste with techniques from the other autobiographies we have read in class. This should be fun!

Margaret!
I am so pumped too. You know me. This is the perfect assignment for the both of us, I feel like. I don't think we need to stress too much about the "format" of the paper. I am sure Ann Page is just looking for a little bit of critical analysis and a whole lot of creativity. I wish we got to read pieces of eachother's work. We should definitely try and share some pieces of our work as we put together some drafts. I think Ondaatje's style is sort of collage-like as well, but I am sure you are going to take that particular style to a whole new level. I was wondering which three texts you are going to use, just out of curiosity. I kind of want to see some actual conversation start happening on this blog!
Better late than never!

Megan,
I was actually looking to use Mary McCarthy, Edwidge Danticut, and Eavan Boland. I liked the style of McCarthy with the italics, Danticut's separation from the story, and Boland's intertwining of her grandmother's story in her own (only I would be more likely to use my mother).
Sounds like you're going to have a great paper there! I am using Danticat as well. I loved her ability to detach herself from the horrible atrocities that happened to her and her family. I assume "splicedness" will definitely come up somewhere in your paper. :) I am using Danticat as well for the same reason, and I am also going to use Kazin and Ondaatje as well. Kazin for the whole "attentiveness without object" concept and Ondaatje for his anecdotal/collage-ish style. Good luck and have a great break!
