This certainly got me thinking, Margaret. For a long time, it's been part of a letter the poet John Keats wrote to a friend about his theory of poetry. He wrote: "I believe in the truth of the imagination and the holiness of the heart's affections." Thanks for your prompt.
Your prompt was so fun to respond to! I have always wanted to go on a positive rant about one of my favorite quotes of all time. Here was my response...granted it was a freewrite, so it's a little on the not-so-grammatically-correct side of things:
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." The words that hang above my bed on my favorite James Dean poster. For some reason, that quote has been imprinted on my mind since I bought that poster. I suppose I "dream as if I'll live forever," because I know I have countless goals and ambitions. Some of them I may not even have time for in this one, simple life. Time is not on my side. I think if I spent more time "living as if I'll die today," I'd find that I have more time and energy to accomplish this unending list of dreams I have. I'd spend less time worrying about failure and disgrace, and more being worry-free and ready to conquer the world. I want to be able to be able to accomplish all these dreams I have for myself and everyone that I love and live for!
Forgive my grammar errors— “Don’t ever give up.” I couldn’t tell you who first spoke these words—but I know that I first heard them from my Mom. I have faced many obstacles in my life as I am sure everyone else has. I have always believed that if I simply keep going along one step at a time eventually I’ll get to where I want to be. I also use this quote as a mantra when I’m running, or usually when I’m writing my 100th page of the night and just deleted an entire page. Its not a very exciting quote to live by, but it’s the one that’s kept me going through everything in the past twenty years.

PS I loved this one Margaret!
